Moving HAPI to a new computer

This guide provides the required steps to move HAPI to a new computer is the most common scenarios.

This guide assumes HAPI is installed in C:\SmoothPay\HAPI (it may not be, you need to check the existing icon target - right-click, choose Properties to find out).

If you cannot follow these steps, please ask your IT person for assistance.

Single-User site (HAPI is installed and used on just one computer)

1. Mandatory: Complete any processing for data exported from Trust

2. Optional: Remove old archive copies: Using Windows Explorer, navigate to C:\SmoothPay\HAPI\Archive and delete all but the few latest archive copies (these just take up unnecessary space and will slow down the migration)

3. Copy the HAPI folder to a flash drive (or to a temporary folder on your server if you have one)

4. Install HAPI from here (do NOT use old setup files from anywhere else)

5. Copy the HAPI folder content from the flash drive (or temporary server copy) to replace the HAPI folder content on the new computer

6. Start HAPI and check that Config..Setup has the correct location for your SmoothPay program folder (usually C:\SmoothPay\Payroll, but may also be a network location etc - check in SmoothPay..About to find correct Program Location)

You should now be able to process Trust Transactions through HAPI to SmoothPay.

Multi-User site (HAPI is installed and used on server and used by more than one user, and you are replacing the workstation)

NOTE: This method if installation is not supported by the helpdesk - HAPI is designed for use on a single workstation only. You may use this method at your own risk.

1. Mandatory: Complete any processing for data exported from Trust (this must be done on the workstation that exported the data from Trust, esp if this is the workstation being replaced)

2. Optional: Remove old archive copies: Using Windows Explorer, navigate to C:\SmoothPay\HAPI\Archive and delete all but the few latest archive copies (these just take up unnecessary space and will slow down the migration)

3. Install HAPI from here to the C:\ drive of the new workstation (do NOT use old setup files from anywhere else)

4. DELETE the HAPI desktop icon and the C:\SmoothPay\HAPI folder from the new workstation (the install is required merely to ensure that all required DLL's are installed)

5. Create a desktop shortcut to HAPI.EXE on the server
